Elden Ring Progression Route — Region Order & Level Guide

FAQ

What is the correct order of regions in Elden Ring?
Limgrave → Weeping Peninsula (optional) → Stormveil Castle → Liurnia → Altus Plateau → Leyndell → Mountaintops of the Giants → Crumbling Farum Azula. Caelid and Mohgwyn are optional power-leveled side regions.
What level should I be for Stormveil Castle?
Around level 20–30 is comfortable for Margit and Godrick. Higher if you are new — a few extra Vigor levels matter more than damage stats early.
How do I reach Shadow of the Erdtree?
Defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then touch Miquella's withered arm in Mohgwyn Palace. The DLC assumes roughly level 150 and expects you to use the Scadutree Blessing system.
Where do I go when I'm stuck in Elden Ring?
Sideways, not forward. If Margit or Godrick walls you, clear the Weeping Peninsula south of Limgrave — it is tuned below Stormveil and full of upgrades.

Elden Ring never shows you the route — the grace-site rays only point to the next gate, which is usually a boss. This is the intended order, tuned to comfortable levels.

What is the main route?

  1. Limgrave (lvl 1–20) — Church of Elleh → Gatefront Ruins → get Torrent from Melina. Clear coastal camps, the first Golden Seed saplings, and the map stele on the Stormveil road.
  2. Weeping Peninsula (lvl 15–25, optional but recommended) — the peninsula south of the Bridge of Sacrifice is tuned easier than Stormveil and loaded with smithing stones and a Castle Morne rune farm.
  3. Stormveil Castle (lvl 20–30) — Margit at the gate, Godrick inside. Your first Great Rune. Stuck? See our boss coverage.
  4. Liurnia of the Lakes (lvl 30–50) — Raya Lucaria Academy and Rennala (respec unlock). Nokron access opens here after Radahn — needed for the Ranni questline.
  5. Altus Plateau (lvl 50–70) — via the Grand Lift of Dectus (two medallion halves) or the Ruin-Strewn Precipice dungeon.
  6. Leyndell, Royal Capital (lvl 70–90) — two shardbearer fights and the story point of no return. Finish the missable Tarnished Pack invasion here before the capital falls.
  7. Mountaintops of the Giants (lvl 90–110) — Fire Giant, then the Farum Azula endgame chain.
  8. Realm of Shadow (lvl ~150+ / Scadutree-scaled) — Shadow of the Erdtree: Messmer, then the Gate of Divinity.

What are the optional power regions?

  • Caelid — red, rotten, and overtuned for its position; the rune rewards are huge for the risk. Come mid-game.
  • Mohgwyn Palace — endgame zone under the earth; also the physical door into the DLC (Miquella’s cocoon).
  • Nokron / Nokstella / Deeproot — the underground cities; quest-locked behind Ranni’s and Fia’s lines.

How does leveling actually gate progress?

Softly. Bosses are the only hard gates — two Great Runes for Leyndell, Radahn + Mohg for the DLC. If a boss walls you, the answer is almost never “farm a level”: it is a weapon upgrade tier, a spirit ash, or a different region. Grind efficiency: Vigor first (see the beginner guide), then your weapon’s scaling stat.

Where does the Tarnished Pack fit?

Nowhere mandatory — every new pickup sits on this route (Limgrave merchants, Stormveil’s chest, a Caelid invader, the Leyndell invasion). Fold the stops into the route above; the full table is in the Tarnished Pack guide.
