FAQ

Is Elden Ring Nightreign a separate game?
Yes — a standalone $39.99 release (May 30, 2025) on PC, PS4/PS5, and Xbox. It does not require or include the base Elden Ring, and it runs its own patch line (currently v1.03.6).
How many Nightlords are in Nightreign?
Eight at launch — Gladius, Adel, Gnoster, Maris, Libra, Fulghor, Caligo, and the finale Heolstor — plus two more added by The Forsaken Hollows: the Balancers and the Dreglord.
Can you play Nightreign solo?
Yes — expeditions scale to solo play, and a solo player fights the same bosses with adjusted numbers. The game is designed around three players, so solo runs are the hard mode.
What does The Forsaken Hollows add?
Two playable Nightfarers (Scholar and Undertaker), two Nightlords (Balancers and Dreglord), and a new Shifting Earth. It launched December 4, 2025 for €15 / included with Deluxe editions.

Elden Ring Nightreign is FromSoftware’s standalone co-op spin-off — not a DLC, not a mode, but a separate $39.99 game built on the Elden Ring engine and monster catalog. Released May 30, 2025, it turns the Souls formula into a session-based expedition game for three players. This section of the wiki covers everything in Limveld.

How does a Nightreign expedition work?

Each run drops a squad of three into Limveld — a shifting map assembled from Elden Ring geography — for three in-game days:

  • Days 1–2 — loot, level, and clear points of interest while a shrinking ring closes the map. Each night ends in a boss fight drawn from a rotating pool.
  • Day 3 — the Nightlord: a unique multi-phase boss that the whole expedition was building toward.

Runs are self-contained — you start at level 1 every time and carry Relics (permanent account progression) between runs. Death means the run ends; the only meta-progression is what you unlocked.

Who are the Nightfarers?

Eight playable characters at launch — Wylder, Guardian, Duchess, Revenant, Ironeye, Raider, Executor, and Recluse — each with fixed kits (a unique skill, a character passive, and an ultimate art) rather than the freeform building of the main game. The Forsaken Hollows DLC added two more: the Scholar and the Undertaker, whose unlock chain is a questline in itself — see how to unlock them.

Who are the Nightlords?

Eight Nightlords headline the launch roster — from Tricephalos (Gladius, the three-headed wolf everyone fights first) through the finale Night Aspect (Heolstor). Post-launch, Everdark Sovereign variants rotate harder versions of Adel, Gnoster, Fulghor, and others as live content. The Forsaken Hollows added two more: the seven-bodied Balancers and the scarlet-rot Dreglord (Dreglord boss guide).

What is The Forsaken Hollows?

Nightreign’s first DLC (December 4, 2025; €15 standalone, included with Deluxe/Collector’s editions, requires update 1.03): two Nightfarers, two Nightlords, and a new Shifting Earth event. The full breakdown — content, unlock order, and what to buy — is in the Forsaken Hollows guide.

How is Nightreign doing now?

The Forsaken Hollows launch pushed Steam activity to a ~133K peak that month; September 2026 sits around a ~15K monthly average as patch v1.03.6 keeps the live layer ticking. If you are coming from the base game, read our Elden Ring overview first for how the two games fit together.
