FAQ

How many endings does Elden Ring have?
Six — Age of Fracture (default), Age of the Duskborn, Blessing of Despair, Age of Perfect Order, Lord of Frenzied Flame, and Age of Stars. One playthrough can see one; the rest need NG+ or a second save.
Which Elden Ring ending is the 'good' ending?
There is no canon answer — Age of Stars (Ranni's moonlit age) is the community's best-regarded for its quest payoff, while Lord of Frenzied Flame is the deliberately catastrophic option.
Can an ending be locked out permanently?
Yes — taking the Frenzied Flame beneath Leyndell locks you into its ending unless you complete Millicent's questline for Miquella's Needle, which cleanses it at the Dragonlord's arena. Everything else stays open until you pick.
What are the Mending Rune endings?
Three variants of the standard ending created by using a special rune at the throne: Duskborn (Fia's quest), Blessing of Despair (Dung Eater's quest), and Perfect Order (Goldmask and Corhyn's quest).

Six endings, one throne. After the final boss at the Elden Throne, the Fractured Marika waits — and what you do there decides which of Elden Ring’s six endings plays. All are decided in the final room; the work is what you bring to it.

What are the six endings?

Ending Unlock How to get it
Age of Fracture Always available Mend the Elden Ring at the throne — no conditions
Age of the Duskborn Fia’s questline Use the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince at the throne
Blessing of Despair Dung Eater’s questline Use the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse
Age of Perfect Order Goldmask + Brother Corhyn’s questline Use the Mending Rune of Perfect Order
Lord of Frenzied Flame Frenzied Flame inheritance Accept the Three Fingers beneath Leyndell — becomes your only ending
Age of Stars Ranni’s questline Touch her blue summon sign on the arena floor instead of the ring

How do the Mending Rune endings work?

Three of the variants are the same ending plus a different philosophy — each is a long NPC chain that ends in a Mending Rune you slot at the throne:

  • Fia, Deathbed Companion — Deeproot Depths chain; hers is the “death returns to the world” branch.
  • Dung Eater — the sewer gaol beneath Leyndell; the darkest rune, a curse that spreads.
  • Goldmask & Corhyn — the wandering philosopher pair across Altus and the Mountaintops; the “perfect” order.

Any or all can be earned in one run — you pick at the end. None locks the others out.

What is the Frenzied Flame lock?

The one true commitment: meet the Three Fingers beneath Leyndell (through the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds) and the Flame of Frenzy possesses you — the throne interaction becomes the Frenzied Flame ending, no choice. The only escape is Miquella’s Needle: earned at the tail of Millicent’s questline (see Malenia for where that chain ends) and used at Dragonlord Placidusax’s arena to purge the flame and reopen the other five options.

Which ending should I pick first?

Community consensus favors Age of Stars for the first clear — it is the longest quest payoff in the game and the most complete-feeling conclusion. For a second run, Perfect Order or Frenzied Flame sit at opposite ends of the dial. If you are planning the run’s route, the progression guide shows when each questline’s gates open, and the beginner guide covers the early hours all of this assumes.
